The Art of the Novel: Essential Skills for Every Fiction Writer

Mystery or romance, young adult or literary, novel or short story–whatever kind of fiction you’re writing, there are certain elements that must be done, and done well. In this 90-minute interactive workshop, we’ll focus on the essential skills every fiction writer should have: creating memorable characters, crafting dialogue, weaving plots, and building the tension that keeps readers turning pages. Whether you’re starting a first draft or revising a finished manuscript, this workshop will help you take your writing abilities to the next level. Bring a pen, paper, and passion for your craft–we’re going to have fun!

As an unknown with only one short story credit, Christine Fletcher wrote a query letter for her first book that got her out of the slush pile and onto the roster of a New York literary agency. She has since published two young adult novels, Ten Cents a Dance and Tallulah Falls, which was named a Book for the Teen Age by the New York Public Library. She is currently working on her third novel while practicing veterinary medicine part-time.
