June 30, 2010 is the deadline for proposal applications for the 2010-2011 Season of the Northwest Author Series

The Northwest Author Series is an educational series of author workshops put on for the benefit of aspiring writers of all levels from Wilsonville and the surrounding areas. All of the authors who present for us are:

  • residents of the Pacific Northwest
  • traditionally published authors
  • experienced writing workshop teachers

The series takes place the third Sunday of each month during the school year (September – May, not including December) and features traditionally published authors, who are passionate about sharing what they have learned with others. The size of the typical audience is 30-40 writers. Authors, who present for us, sign copies of their book or books after the workshop.

Writers come to our series to learn new skills that they can turn around and apply themselves. Presenters are encouraged to include primarily how-to instruction in their 90-minute presentations. We seek to provide education as much as entertainment.

Presenters in past seasons have included such well-known names as Carmen T. Bernier Grand, Elizabeth Lyon, Marc Acito, Susan Fletcher, and Naseem Rakha.

This is our fourth consecutive season as one of the foremost educational author series in the greater Portland area. The Northwest Author Series is sponsored by The Wilsonville Public Library and The Wilsonville Friends of the Library and is publicized and hosted by series creator, Christina Katz.

Katz is a Wilsonville resident and the author of Get Known Before the Book Deal and Writer Mama (both from Writer’s Digest Books).

Refreshments sponsored by Starbucks and Lamb’s Thriftway are served. Signed books are available for purchase. Door prize winners are selected. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed, and educational.

Final presenter selections for the 2010-2011 Season will be made the first week of July. After confirmation and date selection, the schedule will be posted by August 1st.

Anyone who is interested in being considered as a workshop-presenter, can download a sample one-page proposal at the bottom of this post. All proposals should be formatted as requested and publication-ready, including a professional-quality headshot.

The Friends of the Wilsonville Library offers our presenters a modest honorarium to our presenters, which is paid at the time of the workshop.

Submit your proposal to Christina Katz at “katz christina at comcast dot net” with “NAS Proposal” in the subject line. We will not be repeating any of our past presenters.

Thank you for your interest in the Northwest Author Series. We hope we will have a chance to enjoy your presentation or see you at one of our upcoming events.
