The Northwest Author Series Presents: Susan Fletcher on Sunday, October 17th

TOPIC: Creating Fictional Worlds: The Strange, Exotic and Unfamiliar

Have you ever wanted to write historical fiction or fantasy? The first challenge is creating literary worlds out of the alchemy of research and imagination. The next challenge is persuading readers to leave the comfortable familiarity of the worlds they know and cross over with the author into unfamiliar places. In this workshop, award-winning author Susan Fletcher offers suggestions, examples, and writing exercises to help you create compelling fictional worlds. Be prepared to enter foreign territory across the boundaries of time and imagination.

Susan Fletcher’s latest novel, Ancient, Strange, and Lovely, is a companion to the Dragon Chronicles. She is the author of ten books for children and young adults, including Shadow Spinner, Walk Across the Sea, Alphabet of Dreams, and the Dragon Chronicles series. Her work has been translated into eight languages and has been honored on such lists as: American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults, ALA Notable Books, and International Reading Association Young Adults’ Choice. She has won an Oregon Book Award (twice) and the Oregon Council of Teachers of English Oregon Spirit Book Award.
